Emerald cut diamonds are most notable because they are the classic rectangular shape. Emerald diamonds are such a versatile shape when it comes to ring settings. They look fabulous on their own set in a solitaire, in a halo, and in most other style settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Emerald diamonds are step cut which means their faceting is parallel. Due to their cut, emerald diamonds flash sparkle when the light hits them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emerald diamonds do not hold on to color as much as other elongated diamond shapes. Color is the amount of warmth in the diamond. As always color is a personal preference, when choosing your perfect diamond. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are a few examples of emerald diamonds with different color grades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a reminder, the black coloring in the diamonds is a reflection of the camera. This is not the color of the diamond.

GIA does not grade cuts for fancy shapes. We have done the work for you by measuring the depth and the table percentages. Fancy shaped diamonds such as an emerald, that fall in within very good and excellent cut will have the maximum amount of sparkle. They will also measure appropriately to their carat weight. The length to width ratio measures the overall shape of the emerald diamond. Emeralds with a length to width ratio of 1.2 will appear chunkier. Emeralds with a length to width ratio of 1.5 will appear elongated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A length to width ratio of 1.2-1.35 give the emerald diamond a more chunky appearance. A length to width ratio above 1.35 will give the emerald diamond a more elongated apperance. Here are a few examples below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clarity is a larger concern in emerald diamonds. As mentioned above emerald diamonds are step cut. Due to their cut emerald diamonds do not hide flaws like brilliant cut diamonds. Of course, clarity is a personal choice and should be decided based on what is most important to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
